- Special Counsel Robert Mueller submitted his long-awaited report Friday, investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and possible obstruction of justice by President Trump. What is to become of the confidential report remains unclear.
- The report is now in the hands of Attorney General William Barr, who notified the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees in a letter later that day. Barr indicated he is “reviewing the report, and anticipate that I may be in a position to advise you of the special counsel’s principal conclusions as soon as this weekend.”
- Those reading the tea leaves were quick to point out the seemingly welcome news that Mueller’s investigation concluded with no further indictments— potentially shielding members of the Trump family. As is, 34 people have been indicted, convicted, or plead guilty to crimes in connection to the probe.
- CNN reported Friday night that the Trump administration was “celebrating quietly,” and “with a fair amount of glee,” upon conclusion of the probe. Jeffrey Toobin opined the lack of any further indictments was “really good news” for Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr., and others.
- “The people on TV have been lying to you,” Tucker Carlson stated on his show Friday night. “What’s criminal is what just happened. We have lived through three separate investigations into Russia collusion. . . They spent years looking at this. And in the end, they found nothing.”
