- At least four people were killed, and hundreds more were injured, in a wave of violence across Venezuela this weekend. Opposition activists defied President Nicolas Maduro and attempted to bring emergency food and medical supplies into the country from Colombia.
- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir declared a national state of emergency Saturday, dismissing the federal government, and firing state governors. Demonstrations, originally over cuts to bread and fuel subsidies, have rocked Sudan since December.
- President Trump announced Sunday that the United States would delay tariffs on Chinese goods originally planned to begin March 1. He cited “substantial progress” in bilateral trade talks between the two countries, and did not mention a new deadline.
- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received rare criticism from AIPAC, the largest pro-Israel group in the United States, over his electoral alliance with a far-right party, loyal to a late extremist rabbi. Netanyahu’s party, Likud, is now trailing in opinion polls for the first time since 2006.
- Eight Labour MP’s and three Conservatives quit their respective parties last week, citing rows over leadership, antisemitism, and Brexit. Their new bloc, the Independent Group, is currently tied for fourth-largest in Parliament. Senior members of both parties warn there could be more defectors to come.
