- In an interview, to air Sunday night on “60 Minutes,” former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe says he briefly discussed invoking the 25th Amendment against President Trump with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
- A spokesman for McCabe insisted the story, and his remarks, were taken out of context. “At no time did Mr. McCabe participate in any extended discussions about the use of the 25th Amendment, nor is he aware of such discussions,” a statement read a day after the CBS News story dropped.
- For Trump supporters, Thursday’s revelation served as further proof of a “deep state” plot against the president. To his opponents, the admission showed Trump was so dangerous and unpredictable that serious and professional people inside DOJ broached the unthinkable.
- Friday morning’s performance in the Rose Garden was the clearest sign yet, his opponents claimed, of the necessity of the 25th Amendment. “If your uncle behaved like the president,” one wrote, “you’d hide his car keys, lock up the booze, and drive him to the neurologist.”
- On the right, McCabe’s confession amounted to nothing less than an attempted coup. Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz called it “a despicable act of unconstitutional power grabbing . . . which happens in third world countries.”
